Eastern Techniques
Gua Sha
Gua Sha is an Eastern medicine technique using a round edged implement to stroke the skin.
Its effect in Western medicine terms is to bring out of the muscle metabolic waste products and help promote normal circulation and metabolic processes. Prior to performing gua sha your physiotherapist will discuss the procedure with you and obtain your consent.
Cupping
Cupping is another Easter medicine technique in which a cup is applied to the skin and pressure in the cup is reduced, the skin and muscle are drawn into the cup. The theory behind cupping is that it reduces stagnation in the muscle and it can also be applied to acupuncture points.
